IMU CET 2020


IMU CET 2020 – Registrations for IMU CET 2020 is now from April 1 to May 5. However, submission of application form can be done till May , 2020. All candidates will have to register to participate in the IMU CET examination. Indian Maritime University will conduct the IMU CET 2019 on June 1. IMU CET 2020 offers admissions to candidates into the various courses offered by the campuses of the institute. The scores secured in IMU CET 2020 can also be used for admissions into the affiliated institutes. The authorities will declare the result of IMU CET 2020 on June 6. The counselling session will be conducted only for admissions into the six campuses of Indian Maritime University from June 10 to 20, 2020. For admissions into the rest of the affiliated institutes of IMU CET, the candidates will have to apply directly to the institute.

Age Limit
General category candidates should be minimum of 17 years and maximum 25 years old as on August 1, 2020. Maximum of five years age relaxation is provided to SC/ST category candidates.

Academic Qualifications
  • The candidates should have passed 12th standard qualifying examination with aggregate marks of 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • At least 50% marks should have been secured by the candidates in English
  • For SC/ST category candidates, there is a relaxation in marks. However, no relaxation will be provided in English.

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 by any recognized state or central board
  • Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi
  • Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi
  • Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/ Cambridge/ Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level
  • The final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services wing of the National Defence Academy
  • H.S.C vocational examination
  • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva
  • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects
  • H.S.C vocational examination
  • Diploma recognized by AICTE or a state board of technical education of at least 3-year duration
  • Any Public School/Board/University examination in India or in any foreign Country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)

Medical Fitness
  • A medical certificate issued by doctors who are approved by Director General of Shipping has to be produced by the candidates applying for Marine Engineering.
  • Physical fitness certificate from registered medical practitioner has to be provided by the candidates applying for B.Tech (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering) and B.Sc (Ship Building & Repair).

Eyesight
Candidates applying for B.Sc (Applied Nautical Science), B.Sc (Nautical Science), B.Sc (Maritime Science) & B.Tech (Marine Engineering) should not be:
  • Squint
  • No morbid condition of eyes
  • The eyelids that are liable to aggravate or recur
  • There should be no pressure of trachoma and iris complication sequel
  • Good binocular vision
  • Eyeballs should move in all directions
  • Pupils should react normally to light and accommodation
Candidates joining DNS, B.Sc (Nautical Science) & B.Sc (Maritime Science) degree course colour vision shall (unaided 1.0 (6/6) in better eye and 0.67 (6/9) in other eye. Normal colour vision shall be tested by Ishihara test chart.
Candidates applying for B.Tech (Marine Engineering) degree course, distance vision (unaided 0.5 (6/12) in each eye or 0.67 (6/9) in better eye and 0.33 (6/18) in other eye. Normal colour vision shall be tested by Ishihara test chart.

to Graduate Marine Engineers (GME) Course at SCI’s Maritime Training 
Institute at Powai, Mumbai, scheduled for commencing from April 2019


ABOUT GME COURSE:

GME course is conducted at SCI’s Maritime Training Institute at Powai, Mumbai. This course is approved by Directorate General of Shipping (DGS). GME course comprises of pre-sea training of 08 months at MTI Powai and structured shipboard training of 10 months thereafter on ships operated by SCI.


JOB PROSPECTS:

After completion of 8 months shore training as GME and 10 months structured shipboard training as TME, candidates can appear for MEO CLASS-IV PART “B” examination after obtaining 

MEO CLASS-IV PART “A” exemption certificates from D.G. Shipping. On completion of satisfactory performance of training period and reporting to SCI with MEO Class-IV, Part-B certificate of competency (COC), SCI may employ these candidates on ships owned, manned or operated by SCI as per INSA MUI Agreement if vacancies are available. Also candidates will be required to furnish an indemnity bond to SCI for agreeing to serve on SCI vessels for a period of 5 years after obtaining the MEO CLASS IV PART B certificate of competency. In the event of breach of Indemnity, candidate shall be liable to pay Rs. 3.00 Lakhs towards the expenses incurred on the skill development. After obtaining necessary sea experience and higher certificates of competency the candidate can rise to the rank of Chief Engineer officer on the ship.


ELIGIBILITY:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering) from AICTE Approved Engineering College. Equivalent degree or degree with specialization or electives other than above educational qualification is not acceptable. Candidates must be in possession of valid Engineering degree certificate / Provisional degree certificate/ Marks Sheet with minimum 50% marks in final year of Engineering at the time of interview. Furthermore, candidates should have secured at least 50% marks in English language at Xth or XIIth class.


AGE LIMIT: 

Maximum 28 years as on 1st April 2019 (Scheduled date of commencement of training). Candidates belonging to UR / OBC (NCL) category must be born on or after 01.04.1991. Age relaxation of up to 5 years applicable to SC/ST candidates as per existing Government directives. Candidate belonging to SC/ST category must be born on or after 01.04.1986. 

Age relaxation of two years for women candidates applicable.

ABOUT THE EXAMINATION: 
The on-line examination shall be of two (02) hours duration, which will be in the form of multiple choice questions (MCQs). 

The on-line examination will focus on MCQ’s on 
  1. Quantitative Aptitude test, 
  2. Professional Knowledge test, 
  3. English Language test and 
  4. Reasoning Ability test.

The questions of the test will be bilingual (English and Hindi). 

Candidate MUST PASS in each of 
the objective tests to qualify for personnel interview. The passing Marks in each test will be decided on the basis of the performance of all the competing candidates in each test.


TEST CENTRE: 
The on-line examination will be held at Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai only. 

Candidates will have to choose a test centre, nearest from their home town and the same cannot be changed after the form is submitted online. However, The Shipping Corporation of India 
reserves the right to cancel or add any test centre or change the centre chosen by the candidate.


APPLICATION FEES: 
 Rs.1000/- (Rs. One Thousand Only) for General (UR) & OBC candidates. 
 Rs.100/- (Rs. One Hundred only) for SC / ST / Female candidates.
 Above payment amount exclude Payment Gateway charges.
